The use of guided imagery is a relatively new tool being used by pastors, psychologists, counselors and nurses to help individuals make positive changes in their lives. However, there is also much wisdom from ancient writings and teachings that can be helpful today in understanding the mind/body relationship. Specifically, both Christian teachings and Traditional Chinese Medicine both offer insight into how our thoughts affect us.

Two thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote "...whatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things" (Philippians 4:8) The purpose of the Tranquilities Series is to help the user feel complete despite loss and sorrow issues, have the courage to move past fears, release anger, recognize their self-worth and learn methods to stop worrying. When this occurs, they are able to focus their mind on these worthy goals that will build physical, mental and spiritual health. Many other Old and New Testament scriptures teach this same philosophy.

Secondly, Track 1 of each CD has references to God, where the listener is encourage to "feel God's presence", followed by the reading of an Old or New testament scripture, related to the goal of the recording.

Aromatherapy is referenced extensively in both the Old and New Testament. There are hundreds of references to the use of Aromatherapy oils in the Bible. The most significant was when God gave Moses a recipe in Exodus 34, to create a holy anointing oil. When Christ was born, the Wise Men brought Frankincense and Myrrh, which were holy aromatherapy oils. During Christ's lifetime, there is some evidence that he used oils in his healing ministry and taught the disciples how to use them. Another example of the use of aromatherapy oils was when Mary Magdaline used the oil of Spikenard on Jesus' feet.

About 3,500 years ago, Traditional Chinese Medicine described five major emotions and how one leads to the other. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it was taught that grief or loss results in fear, anger, reduced self-esteem and worry. Tranquilities utilizes this wise insight in the creation of the imageries.
